1.3202 steel is one of high performance high-speed tungsten steel material.DIN 1.3202 tool steel is similar to 1.3302 high-speed steel but with added 5% cobalt. The high Vanadium content gives the steel the best cutting performance and durability. The Cobalt content offers high tempering durability and hot hardness.It is the preferred material of aviation alloy, high temperature alloy spiral flat broach, and tap and die milling cutter for hard cutting material and quenched and tempered material.

Heat Treatment of 1.3202 steel:
1.Soft Annealing
Heat to 820-860oC, cool slowly in furnace. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 280.
2.Stress Relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to 600-650oC, holding for one hour at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.
3.Hardening
1st pre-heating: 400oC. 2nd and 3rd pre-heating: 850oC and 850oC and 1050oC. Harden from a temperature of 1190-1240oC followed by oil or air quenching or warm bath approx. 550oC/air.
4.Tempering
Tempering temperature: 3 x at 540-580oC. Hardness after tempering is 65-67 HRC.
5.Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1100-900oC.
Applications
1.3202 steel has proved particularly beneficial in cases where hard materials being processed cause a high degree of wear of the cutting surface, and where the cutting surface is at an elevated temperature. It is very suitable for make complex blanking, high speed Drill bar, vibration and impact load of the mold: deep drawing die, punching die. Metal cutting saw blades, cold heading and extrusion tools. It have very good hot hardness.
Application included: High speed steel, for heavy-duty operations. Turning knives, milling cutters for rough machining, smoothing.
