Heat treatment Related

  • Annealing of EN3 Carbon structural steel

EN3 is commonly supplied bright drawn or as rolled. If annealing is required heat to 880-910°C, furnace cool. The EN3 carbon steel will get MAX 250 HB (Brinell hardness).

  • Hardening of EN3 Carbon structural steel

Heated slowly to 880-910°C, Then after adequate soaking at this temperature quench in water and temper.. Temper as soon as tools reach room temperature.

  • Forged of EN3 Carbon structural steel

Forged at forged temperature, normal hot rolled is ok.


Mechanical Properties

The mechanical properties of annealed DIN W N-R EN3 carbon steel are outlined in the table below

(1) phase transition temperature (approximate) Ac1 = 735 ℃, Ac3 = 855 ℃, Ar3 = 835 ℃, Ar1 = 680 ℃

(2) Specification normalizing temperature 920 ~ 950 ℃, cooled baked. The hardness of 131 ~ 156HBS.

(3) Specification softening rough cold temperature 700 ~ 720 ℃, holding time of 8 ~ 15h, and then to 50 ~ 100 ℃ / h cooling rate, the furnace temperature dropped to ≤550 ~ 600 ℃, cooled baked.

Before treatment hardness ≤143HBS, soften hardness ≤131HBS.

(4) specification quenching temperature 910 ℃ ± 10 ℃, 10% NaCl brine cooling.

(5) the measured yield strength fy = 245Mpa, the modulus of elasticity E = 206Gpa, Poisson’s ratio ν = 0.3.

(6) shear strength of 275 ~ 392MPa, a tensile strength of 253 ~ 500MPa, yield strength of 275MPa, elongation of 25%.

(7) as long as the annealing temperature of 600-650 degrees, holding time 1-2h.

DIN W N-R EN3 steel is widely used for a variety of applications in the used in the automotive and engineering industries for toolholders and other such components. Typical applications such as valve bodies, pumps and fittings, Shaft, the high load of wheel, bolts, double-headed bolts, gears, etc

Steel plate: Thickness 5mm – 3000mm x Width 100mm – 3500mm

Steel Hexagonal bar: Hex 5mm – 105mm
