1.2210 steel is a cold-work steel used for a wide range of applications. It has good machinability, offering high hardness and wear resistance it is widely used in general engineering. Silver steel is a common tool steel that is supplied as a centerless ground round bar (with tolerances similar to that of a drill bit). The name comes from the highly polished appearance of the rods; there is no silver in the alloy.

Form of Supply

1.2210 steel, we can supply the round bar, steel flat bar, plate, hexagonal steel bar, and steel square block. Round bar can be sawn to your required lengths as one-offs or multiple-cut pieces. Rectangular pieces can be sawn from flat bars or plates to your specific sizes. Ground tool steel bar can be supplied, providing a quality precision finished bar to tight tolerances.

Heat treatment Related

  • Soft annealing:
    710 to 740 °C for about 2 to 5 hours; slow controlled cooling of 10 to 20 °C per hour to about 600 °C; further cooling in air, max. 220 HBHardening:
    780 to 840 °C
    15 to 30 minutes keeping the curing temperature
    quenching in water/oil
    obtainable hardness: 64-66 HRC

    Tempering:
    slow heating to tempering temperature immediately after hardening;
    minimum time in the furnace: 1 hour per 20 mm part thickness,
    min. 2 hours/of cooling in the air
